Mini-Interview

Overview

Yinka Ilori MBE announced his first solo gallery exhibition at Cristea Roberts Gallery: Joy Through Resistance: He Who Laughs Last, Laughs Best. The exhibition represents his most personal presentation to date, featuring over 20 new and recent works across painting, print, sculpture, and an immersive sound installation. This site of storytelling invites the public to explore the intersection of resilience and joy through Ilori's unique artistic lens.

The opening night brought together leading voices in art, design, and music. DO CULTURE was commissioned to document the evening – capturing Yinka's unique inspiration for the exhibition, the key contributors who brought the event to life, the community in attendance, and the cultural significance of the moment.

Impact

  • Recapped the launch event, helping to promote the exhibition
  • Captured the voices and energy of Yinka's community
  • Created visual assets showing the voice and personality behind the art
  • Showcased the collection and strengthened alignment between Yinka and Cristea Roberts Gallery
  • Engaged Yinka's audience with shareable social content

Our Approach

Our creative direction focused on storytelling through people and the artworks. We threaded together voices from Yinka's community and the Cristea Roberts team to build a cohesive narrative around identity, craftsmanship, and cultural pride.

We used slower transitions to let the artwork breathe, giving space for each piece to be digested with a cinematic, premium feel – allowing the narrative and visuals to do most of the work. Through carefully structured interviews and cinematic exhibition coverage, we highlighted Yinka's key theme of joy, what that means to his community, and the resulting impact on attendees at the exhibition

What we delivered:

  • 0:60 campaign film featuring Leicester footage, products, narrative commentary, and product interaction moments
  • 4x edits (15-120s) for web and social
  • 12x edits (30s, 15s, 6s) for paid social across different aspect ratios
  • 30-minute full feature interview with Yinka Ilori
  • BTS clips bank
  • Production: direction, on-site production management, filming, interviewing, and editing
